Instructions
Prep Your Turkey:
Start by thawing your turkey in the refrigerator if it’s frozen. This can take several days, so plan ahead. Once thawed, remove the giblets and neck from the cavity, pat the turkey dry with paper towels, and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.
Season Generously:
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Rub the entire turkey with olive oil or melted butter, ensuring even coverage. Season generously with salt and pepper, both inside the cavity and on the skin. For added flavor, stuff the cavity with fresh herbs, minced garlic, and quartered onion or lemon.
Choose Your Cooking Method:
Roasting: Place the turkey breast-side up on a roasting rack inside a roasting pan. This allows for even cooking and airflow around the bird.
Spatchcocking: For an even faster cooking time, consider spatchcocking the turkey (removing the backbone and flattening the bird). This technique cooks the turkey more evenly and results in crispy skin.
